Service Configuration
This chapter introduces the method for configuring the HG520b.

reference.
3.1
Service Modes of the HG520b
The HG520b supports multiple service modes and the configuration of
the DSLAM at the office end should be considered when you select a
service mode. Table 3-1 lists the service modes of the HG520b.

Caution:
Some parameters are validated only after they are saved and the
HG520b is rebooted. Follow the prompt in the configuration page to
perform this operation.

3.2
Configuring the Bridge Mode
In the bridge mode, the HG520b serves as a bridge. You need to install
the Point to Point Protocol (PPP) dial-up software to realize the dial-up
access to the Internet.
This section describes the process to configure the HG520b to work in
the bridge mode and the process to configure your computer to access
the Internet through the HG520b.
3.2.1
Preparation
Table 3-2 shows the configuration for the bridge mode.

1. Configuring the HG520b
Follow the steps:
(1)
Log in to the Web configuration page of the HG520b. For the
procedure, refer to "2.3
Establishing Configuration
Environment."
(2)
Select
Basic
>
WAN Setting
in the navigation tree to
display the WAN configuration page.
(3)
In the WAN configuration page, select the
PVC
that needs to
be configured.
(4)
Set
Mode
to
Bridge
. Configure relevant parameters
according to the values in the Table 3-2.
(5)
Click
Submit
.
2. Configuring your computer
After completing the configuration of the HG520b, you need to install
the PPP dial-up software to access the Internet.
The Windows XP (Professional) operating system has a embedded
PPPoE dial-up software. To set up a dial-up connection in Windows XP
system, do as follows:

Accessories
>
Communications

Network Connections

Click
Create a new connection
in the displayed page.
(3)
Click
Next
in the
New Connection Wizard
dialog box.
(4)
Select
Connect to the Internet
and click
Next
.
(5)
Select
Set up my connection manually
and click
Next
.
(6)
Select
Connect using a broadband connection that
requires a username and password
and click
Next
.
(7)
Enter the name of the connection. You can name it as you
like. Then click
Next
.

Select an option from
Anyone's use
or
My use only
and
click
Next
.

Enter the username and password. Then click
Next

(10) Click
Finish

Configuring the PPPoA Mode
In the PPPoA mode, the HG520b uses the embedded PPP dial-up
software for dialing. The HG520b serves as a router to connect your
computer to the Internet.
This section describes the process to configure the HG520b to work in
the PPPoA mode and the process to configure your computer to
access the Internet through the HG520b.
3.3.1
Preparation
Table 3-3 shows the configuration for the PPPoA mode.
