9.
Connect the power adapter to the Router’s Power port. Plug the other end into an electrical outlet.
Click the
Next
button.
10. Make sure the LEDs on the Router light up. The Power LED will flash for a few seconds while the Router goes
through its self-diagnostics test. This LED will be solidly lit when the self-test is complete. If it does not stop
flashing, refer to “Appendix A: Troubleshooting.”

11. If you do NOT see the
Insert Vodafone Mobile Connect Card
screen, proceed to step 13.
If the Vodafone Mobile Connect HSDPA/3G/UMTS Card is not inserted or recognized, you will be prompted to
insert your Vodafone Mobile Connect HSDPA/3G/UMTS Card. Follow the Vodafone instructions to insert the
SIM card into your Vodafone Mobile Connect HSDPA/3G/UMTS Card. Then insert the Vodafone Mobile Connect
HSDPA/3G/UMTS Card into the Router’s 3G/UMTS slot.
Click the
Next
button.
12. If the SIM card is not inserted into the Vodafone Mobile Connect HSDPA/3G/UMTS Card, you will be prompted
to check that the SIM card is correctly inserted.
Insert the SIM card into your Vodafone Mobile Connect HSDPA/3G/UMTS Card. Click the
OK
button, and
proceed to step 13.

IMPORTANT:
If you do NOT have your Vodafone Mobile Connect Card and SIM card, you cannot
configure the Router for HSDPA/3G/UMTS or GPRS service. You have two choices. To continue
with the Setup Wizard to configure the wireless settings, proceed to step 13, or to configure the
Router for broadband WAN service only, proceed to “Chapter 6: Setting up the Wireless-G Router
for Broadband WAN Service Only” for instructions.
IMPORTANT:
If you do NOT have the SIM card for your Vodafone Mobile Connect Card, you
cannot configure the Router for HSDPA/3G/UMTS or GPRS service. You have two choices. To
continue with the Setup Wizard to configure the wireless settings, proceed to step 13, or to
configure the Router for broadband WAN service only, proceed to “Chapter 6: Setting up the
Wireless-G Router for Broadband WAN Service Only” for instructions.

13. Based on the settings of the SIM card, the following information will be displayed: Home Network, Service,
3G/UMTS/GPRS Connection, APN, APN Username (depending on the country), Password (depending on the
country), and Pin Code (depending on the SIM card).
DNS supplied by network
will be automatically selected.
Service
- Select the appropriate services from the Service options:
3G/UMTS Preferred (Recommended)
,
3G/UMTS Only
, or
GPRS Only
.
3G/UMTS/GPRS Connection
- Select the HSDPA/3G/UMTS Connection method you want to use,
Manually
Connect
or
Auto-Connect
.
DNS supplied by network
- If the network automatically supplies the DNS address(es), keep the default
checkmark. If you need to specify the DNS address(es), remove the checkmark, and enter the DNS
address(es) in the
DNS1-2
fields.
DNS1-2
. If necessary, enter the DNS address(es) you want the Router to use.
Click the
Next
button.
14. The Setup Wizard will ask you to review your settings before it saves them. Click the
Confirm
button if you
are satisfied with your settings, or click the
Modify
button if you want to change them.

15. The Router provides a web-based utility you can use for configuring the Router from any networked PC.
Password
- Enter a password that will control access to the Utility.
Confirm
- Then enter it again in the
Confirm
field.
Click the
Next
button.
16. The Setup Wizard will ask you to enter the settings for your wireless network.
Wireless Network Name
- In the
Wireless Network Name
field, enter the name of your wireless network,
also called the SSID. The name must be identical for all devices in the network. The default setting is
linksys
(all lowercase).
Channel
- Select the operating channel for your wireless network. All of your wireless devices will use this
channel to communicate.
Click the
Next
button.

17. Select the method of security you want to use:
WPA-Personal
(also called WPA-PSK),
WEP (64-Bit)
, or
WEP
(128-Bit)
. WPA stands for Wi-Fi Protected Access, and WEP stands for Wired Equivalent Privacy. WPA is a
stronger security method than WEP. Proceed to the appropriate section for your security method.
If you want to use WPA2-Personal, WPA-Enterprise (also called WPA-RADIUS), WPA2-Enterprise, or RADIUS,
then you should select
Disabled
and use the Router’s web-based utility to configure your wireless security
settings. Click the
Next
button. You will see a warning message. Linksys strongly recommends that you
enable wireless security on your wireless network. Otherwise, unauthorised users may be able to access the
Internet using your service and incur additional charges. You are liable for any and all additional charges from
your service provider. Click the
Exit
button and proceed to step 19.
If you do not want to use any wireless security method, select
Disabled
and then click the
Next
button. You

(wi-fi protected access: a wireless security protocol
using TKIP (Temporal Key Integrity Protocol) encryption,
which can be used in conjunction with a RADIUS server.

wep
(wired equivalent privacy): a method of encrypting network
data transmitted on a wireless network for greater security.

radius
(remote authentication dial-in user service): a protocol
