4.5 QoS Setting Example
Assume a teleworker sometimes works at home and takes care of children. When working
time, he would use Vigor router at home to connect to the server in the headquarter office
downtown via either HTTPS or V PN to check email and access internal database. Meanwhile,
children may chat on Skype in the restroom.
1.
Go to
Bandwidth Management>>Quality of Service.
2.
Click
Setup
link of WAN(1/2/3). Make sure the QoS Control on the left corner is
checked. And select
BOTH
in
Direction
.

Set Inbound/Outbound bandwidth.
Note:
The rate of outbound/inbound must be smaller than the real bandwidth to
ensure correct calculation of QoS. It is suggested to set the bandwidth value for
inbound/outbound as 80% - 85% of physical network speed provided by ISP to
maximize the QoS performance.

Return to previous page. Enter the Name of Index Class #1 by clicking
Edit
link. Type
the name “
E-mail
” for Class 1. Click
OK
to save the settings.
5.
Click the
Setup
link for WAN2. The user can set reserved bandwidth (e.g., 25%) for
E-mail
using protocol POP3 and SMTP. Click
OK
to save the settings.

Return to previous page. Enter the Name of Index Class #2 by clicking

index, the user will set reserved bandwidth for
