For each device, the table shows the IP address, NetBIOS host name or device name (if available),

and the Ethernet MAC address. To force the router to look for attached devices, click

Refresh

.

Managing the Configuration File

The configuration settings of the WNDR3400 router are stored within the router in a configuration

file. You can back up (save) this file to your computer, restore it, or reset it to the factory default

settings. From the main menu, under Maintenance, select

Backup Settings

.

The following sections describe the available options.

Backing Up and Restoring the Configuration

The Restore and Backup options in the Backup Settings screen let you save and retrieve a file

containing your router’s configuration settings.

Note:

If the router is rebooted, the table data is lost until the router rediscovers the

devices.

To save your settings, click

Back Up

. Your browser extracts the configuration file from the router

and prompts you for a location on your computer to store the file. You can give the file a

meaningful name at this time, such as

comcast.cfg.

To restore your settings from a saved configuration file, enter the full path to the file on your

computer, or click

Browse

to browse to the file. When you have located it, click

Restore

to send

the file to the router. The router then reboots automatically.

Erasing the Configuration

Under some circumstances (for example, if you move the router to a different network or if you

have forgotten the password), you might want to erase the configuration and restore the factory

default settings. After an erase, the router’s user name is

admin

, the password is

password

, the

LAN IP address is

192.168.1.1

(or

www.routerlogin.net

), and its DHCP server is enabled.

To erase the configuration, click the

Erase

button in the Backup Settings screen.

•

To restore the factory default configuration settings when you do not know the login password

or IP address, you must use the restore factory settings button on the bottom of the router (see

“Restoring the Default Configuration and Password” on page 8-14

).

Tip:

Before saving your configuration file, change the administrator password to the

default,

password

. Then change it again after you have saved the configuration file.

If you forget the password, you will need to reset the configuration to factory

defaults.

Warning:

Do not interrupt the reboot process.

Enabling Remote Management Access

The remote management feature allows you to upgrade or check the status of your WNDR3400

router via the Internet. From the main menu, under Advanced, select

Remote Management

.

To configure your router for remote management:

1.

Select the

Turn Remote Management On

check box.

2.

Under Allow Remote Access By, specify what external IP addresses will be allowed to access

the router’s remote management.

•

To allow access from any IP address on the Internet, select

Everyone

.

•

To allow access from a range of IP addresses on the Internet, select

IP Address Range

.

Enter a beginning and ending IP address to define the allowed range.

Note:

Be sure to change the router’s default configuration password to a very secure

password. The ideal password should contain no dictionary words from any

language, and should be a mixture of letters (both uppercase and lowercase),

numbers, and symbols. Your password can be up to 30 characters.

Note:

For enhanced security, restrict access to as few external IP addresses as

practical.

To allow access from a single IP address on the Internet, select

Only This Computer

.

Enter the IP address that will be allowed access.

Specify the port number for accessing the management interface.

Normal Web browser access uses the standard HTTP service port 80. For greater security,

enter a custom port number for the remote management Web interface. Choose a number

between 1024 and 65535, but do not use the number of any common service port. The default

is 8080, which is a common alternate for HTTP.

Click

Apply

to have your changes take effect.

Scheduling Wireless Signal Down Time

For each wireless radio, you can schedule times when you want the wireless signal to be off.

During a scheduled "off" period, the specific wireless LED and the Dome LED (if applicable) will

be turned off as well. From the main menu, under Advanced, select

Wireless Settings

.

Note:

When accessing your router from the Internet, type your router’s WAN IP address

into your browser’s address or location field, followed by a colon (:) and the

custom port number. For example, if your external address is 134.177.0.123 and

you use port number 8080, then enter

in your browser.

To turn off the wireless signal, for either wireless network (2.4Ghz or 5Ghz):

1.

Select the

Turn off wireless signal by schedule

check box.

2.

Click the

Add a new period

button. The following screen appears:

Click the

Start

drop-down menu and select the time that you want the wireless signal to turn

off. The times are shown in half hour intervals from midnight to 11:30 p.m.

4.

Click the

End

drop-down menus and select the time that you want the wireless signal to turn

back on.

5.

Select one of the following Recurrence patterns:

•

Daily

– The wireless network will be off every day for the time period you previously

specified.

•

Select Days

– The wireless network will be off on the days you select for the time period

you previously specified.

6.

Click

Apply

.

Whenever either wireless network goes on or off, an entry is made in the log.
