Section 2 - Installation

The DIR-857 includes a Quick Router Setup Wizard CD. Follow the simple steps below to run the Setup Wizard to guide you quickly through the

installation process.

Insert the

Wizard CD

in the CD-ROM drive. The step-by-step instructions that follow are shown in Windows® XP. The steps and screens are similar

for the other Windows operating systems.

If the CD Autorun function does not automatically start on your computer, go to

Start

>

Run

. In the run box type “

D:\autorun.exe

” (where

D:

represents the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive).

When the autorun screen appears, click

START.

Getting Started

Note:

It is recommended to write down the SSID and Security Key, followed by the login password on the provided CD holder.

Configuration

This section will show you how to configure your new D-Link wireless router using the web-based configuration utility.

Quick Setup Wizard

To access the configuration utility, open a web-browser such as Internet

Explorer and enter the IP address of the router (192.168.0.1).

You may also connect using the NetBIOS name in the address bar

(

http://dlinkrouter

).

This wizard is designed to guide you through a step-by step

process to configure your new D-Link router and connect to the

Internet.

In order to secure your new networking device, please enter a

password and click

Next

.

Please wait while your router detects your internet connection type.

Please give your network a name using up to 32 characters.

Click

Next

to continue.

Once this screen appears, your setup is complete. Click

Save &

Connect

to reboot the router.

Select your time zone from the drop-down menu and click

Next

to continue.

Before your router reboots, you will be asked if you want to

Web-based Configuration Utility

To access the configuration utility, open a web-browser such as

Internet Explorer and enter the IP address of the router (192.168.0.1).

Select

Admin

from the drop-down menu and then enter your

password. Leave the password blank by default.
